Returning to the MET stage in Nicolas Joël’s visually striking 1996 production, this masterpiece features Piotr Beczała – an absolute star of the global broadcasts – as the titular poet executed by the Jacobins. Joining him as Maddalena is the internationally acclaimed diva, Sonya Yoncheva, who captivated Müpa audiences with a memorable aria recital not long ago. The baritone lead role of Carlo Gérard, a lackey turned revolutionary people’s tribune, is brought to life by the commanding figure of Igor Golovatenko in this production, which will be led with effervescent energy of conductor Daniele Rustioni.
